Source: Rostelecom may cancel tender for 2020 census tablets
MOSCOW, Dec 19 (PRIME) -- Russian state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom will most likely cancel its tender for the purchase of tablets for the 2020 census and will hold a new one, among domestic manufacturers, a telecom source told PRIME on Thursday.
“The purchase will be most likely annulled and called a new one, only among Russian makers,” the source said, adding that the Industry and Trade Ministry had “lobbied domestic radio electronics manufacturers” at a meeting held by Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.
Rostelecom declined to comment on the matter.
In late November, Rostelecom chose two companies to buy about 360,000 tablet computers for a total of 11.52 billion rubles for the census. Tegrus LLC was to deliver 5.746 billion rubles worth of tables and Tsentr Distributsii LLC (Distribution Center) 5.754 billion rubles worth of tablets. All tablets were to be produced in China and run on the Russian operating system Aurora.
